A 48-year-old man has died in hospital after a collision on Chase Side in Southgate. Detectives are appealing for witnesses and for camera footage.

The Metropolitan Police issued the appeal on Sunday 27 September. It says the collision involved a car and a pedestrian, and that the man who died was a passenger in the car. (Metropolitan Police, 27 September 2026)

What the police have said

Police were called at about 00:40 on 20 September to a collision in Chase Side, N14. The London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance also attended.

The statement sets out the following:

  • several people were taken to hospital
  • a 48-year-old man, a passenger in the car, has since died in hospital
  • a second passenger, a man aged 31, remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition
  • the dead man’s next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers

The force has not named the man who died. It has not said where on Chase Side the collision happened, or given the condition of the pedestrian.

One arrest, and bail

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on Monday 21 September. The Met says she was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and of driving with a specified controlled drug above the prescribed limit.

She was further arrested in interview for failing to stop. She has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

An arrest is not a charge. Nobody has been charged in connection with the collision, on the force’s published account.

The appeal

The investigation is being run by the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Detective Inspector Simon Ager said:

“We are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any information you have could be vital in our investigation.

“I am asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have captured CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact police as this information could be crucial.”

He added that the force’s thoughts “remain with the man’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this devastating loss”.

The Met’s statement headline says “Enfield”, meaning the borough.

The statement gives the date as “Saturday, 20 September”. In 2026, 20 September was a Sunday. The police reference, 259/20SEP, carries the 20th. We have reported the date and left out the weekday.
