Just Us Men, the Nightingale's new support group for men with cancer, meets first on Monday 14 September, 7pm to 9pm at the Little Green Dragon, N21.

A new support group for men with cancer holds its first session on Monday 14 September at the Little Green Dragon micropub in Winchmore Hill. Just Us Men runs from 7pm to 9pm, and there is no sign-up: the charity behind it says to simply come along. (The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre, Just Us Men)

The group has been set up by the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre, the Enfield charity on Baker Street that has provided free support to people affected by cancer for 21 years. The centre describes the group as a place for men “to talk, share and support each other”.

Who it is for

The charity says men can find it hard to talk openly about a cancer diagnosis. Its own page for the group says it may help men who:

  • struggle to talk to loved ones about their diagnosis
  • want to feel like more than their cancer
  • feel isolated by what they are going through
  • are not sure what kind of support they need

There is no expectation to speak or to share personal experiences. Sessions are led by Steve, a counsellor who has worked at The Nightingale for more than four years.

The venue

The Little Green Dragon is at 928 Green Lanes, N21 2AD. It opened in August 2017 as the first micropub in the area, took its name from the long-gone Green Dragon pub further along the road, and was CAMRA’s Greater London Pub of the Year in 2018, according to its WhatPub listing.
